Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of year!
Winter is over and our motivation to get the house back in order is stronger than ever. I am going to share 3 spaces to focus on when you are spring cleaning.

1. The Garage
This is the most dreaded space to organize but tackling it before the summer heat comes makes it a bit easier! Donate any items your children have grown out of. Items like small helmets, bikes, floaties. Speaking of floaties, pull out the summer toys so they are accessible and ready to use when the pool opens!

2. Primary Closet
Rotate your seasonal wardrobe to allow more space in your closet. Put those heavy jackets, boots and sweaters in back storage. This will free up hanging space in the closet as well as make it appear less cluttered.

3. Entry Closet and “Flex Zones”
We want to make these small spaces count so it is important to constantly be updating them to fit your families needs and lifestyles. Make mud rooms, coat closets, command centers work for you. Remove the hats, gloves and scarves from the closet and replace them with sunscreen, bug spray, the family pool bag, sunglasses, etc.  If every nook and cranny in your house has a purpose and every item has a home, it makes it that much easier to maintain throughout the season.

So what are my tips to get you started?
1. Create bite sized projects

Don’t set one Saturday aside and expect your house to look like a Pinterest board after. Make small projects that are still attainable even with the kids running circles around you.

2. Relocate.
There is no rule book when it comes to organizing. Relocate items where they are convenient for you. For example: if you like keeping medicine in your kitchen because you take your supplements with your coffee in the morning, then keep them there. Don’t move them to your primary bathroom because some blog post told you to.

3.The 2 year rule
If you haven’t used an item in the past 2 years, or even remembered you owned it, it is probably time to donate it so someone else can enjoy it. Don’t hold onto thing just because.
